Welcoming Baby Lucas | Central Louisiana Newborn Photography


There's something incredibly special about being invited into a family's home during those first few weeks with a new baby. It's a season that's both beautiful and a little bit chaotic. This week, I had the privilege of photographing baby Lucas and his family in the comfort of their own home. His mom, Jessica, and I taught together years ago when I was a new teacher. So, getting to watch her in this new chapter of life, as a mom of three, it just felt really meaningful. Walking into their home immediately felt warm and welcoming. There wasn't any pressure to perform or or stick to a strict timeline Instead, the morning unfolded exactly as newborn life should. Slowly, naturally, and completely centered around what Lucas needed.

What are Lifestyle Newborns?


Unlike traditional posed studio sessions, a lifestyle newborn session takes place in your own home. And focuses on genuine moments rather than perfect poses. We capture the nursery you thoughtfully prepared, the rocking chair where you'll spend countless hours, the little fingers wrapped around yours, and all the little details that tell your family's story. One of the things my clients appreciate most is that there isn't a stopwatch. I don't schedule these sessions with a rigid end time because babies don't work on schedules. If your little one needs to eat, be changed, cuddle, or simply be held for a while, we pause.


We began in Lucas's nursery, where Jessica rocked him in the nursery chair while soaking in those precious newborn snuggles. Before long, his two proud big sisters joined us. Watching them interact with their baby brother was one of my favorite parts of the morning. Their love for him was impossible to miss. Like many newborns, Lucas let us know when he needed a break. When he became fussy, Jessica fed him while I took his sisters outside for a few fun portraits, giving Mom and Dad a little privacy. That's one of the biggest reasons I love photographing newborns in their own homes. There's never a need to rush or worry that we're running out of time. Instead, we simply follow baby's lead.

Once Lucas had settled, we gathered everyone together again for family photographs. Jessica shared a family cradle that had been handmade by her grandfather. Both she and her sister had slept in it as babies. So, photographing Lucas in that cradle kind of felt like capturing a little piece of their family's history, you know? Those are the kinds of moments I hope my clients treasure years from now. Not just what something looked like, but the stories behind it.

And of course, I can't forget Archer. Throughout the morning, the family's sweet dog kept nearby, quietly watching everything that was happening. We joked that he was waiting for his turn in front of the camera. At the very end of the session, we invited him into a few photos. It quickly became one of my favorite moments of the day. His gentle personality and his excitement to be included, it added so much joy and perfectly reflected what life looks like for this family right now.

Your session doesn't have to be perfect to be meaningful. Babies cry, toddlers wander off, dogs dogs decide they want to join in. That's real life, and those authentic moments are often the ones you'll cherish most later. My goal is to create a calm, relaxed experience where you can just love on your family, and I'll document the moments that matter.
